All successful staff we need to ensure all qualifications, Blue Card and 1st Aid are 100% up to date before being employed,
My School Child Care & Kindergarten Director
My name is Stacey and I am the Centre Director at My School Mt Cotton.
I hold a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and I’ve been working in early education since 1991. I have worked with Mel and Brian previously, at My School Slade Point, located in Mackay.
Our Educators at the centre are exceptional, always planning engaging and inviting play experiences that meet their developmental needs for learning.
I’m passionate about watching children learn and construct knowledge. We lay the foundation for all future learning in the early years, and that’s very powerful and rewarding. I strive to provide exceptional care and education, while working in partnership with families to maximise outcomes for children.
I believe that children learn best when we plan a range of play-based experiences, and offer them many opportunities to guide, direct and discover learning for themselves.
Please contact us to discuss the programs at My School or come in for a centre tour.
We look forward to meeting you!
My School Child Care & Kindergarten Lead Educators
I extend a warm welcome to My School Child Care & Kindergarten - Mt Cotton, Hello my name is Miss Christie and I am the Assistant Director.
I have been in childcare for over 13 years. I started out as a trainee and that’s where I found my passion for children, from there I studied my diploma and once completing that I stepped into an assistant director role which was a great learning opportunity for me.
I have a daughter of my own, she has just turned 2yrs old. She decided to come a little early and spent some time in hospital which has given me a strength I never knew I had.
My personal philosophy is that I believe every child deserves the right to learn and grow at their own pace, every child is different and unique in their own way which makes each and every child special. I believe teaching children the things that they need for life and reaching those important milestones are a vital part of learning.
Learning in an open ended and supportive environment helps children to grow and become shaped into the person they will grow into. I like to follow the Reggio Emilia philosophy which values the child as central to their own learning, not simply an empty vessel waiting to be filled with knowledge. Children are able to pursue their own interests and revisit and build upon ideas at their own pace.
I take pride in connecting with every child in my care and giving them the love and support they need to grow and learn. I believe each child should be encouraged to follow who and what they want to be.
I believe I am here to guide the next generation to become someone special.
I look forward to meeting you and your children and looked forward to becoming an important part of your child’s life at My School.
My name Tia and I have just recently joined My School Child Care and Kindergarten.
I will be the centres educational leader, this role will allow me to get to know all our children and families as I float between all the rooms to assist our educators in delivering a quality program as well as to mentor and build on our educational care principles and practices.
I look forward to getting to know all our families and staff here at My School Child Care and Kindergarten.
I have been with my partner since high school and we have three boys, Zac, Kobey and Hayden. I enjoy spending time with my family and watching my son’s play cricket. In our down time as a family we enjoy going camping.
I have been in childcare for 14 years. Being an early childhood educator is a rewarding and fulfilling career. I feel privileged to be able to care for young children and watch them grow and develop at My School. I have a real passion for educating and nurturing young children. I feel I can help new parents with my knowledge and own personal experience as a parent. I firmly believe every child should feel safe, secure and supported.
My name is Miss Paige, I am currently the Lead Educator in the Toddler One room at My School. A little bit about me... I am 20 years old; I have been working in the early childhood sector for 3 years. I got into early education because I have always wanted to work with kids. I love being able to be a part of them learning something new.
I enjoy watching them form friendships and bonding with their educators. In my free time I love to care for my two horses, as my dream is to one day teach children to ride.
Hi I’m Shara, I have a Diploma in Early Childhood and am looking to study my Bachelors of Early Childhood Education starting in July 2020.
I have two children of my own, one of which is ASD. They are my reason for everything and why I do what I do. I treat and respect each child as if they were my own. Being a mum has taught me many things and prepared me for my career in Early Childhood at My School
I personally believe that every child has their own language and it is up to us as adults, parents and educators to learn to speak that language so we can better help the child learn and grow to blossom into the beautiful person they’re meant to be
DANA’S ALL ABOUT ME/PHILOSOPHY
I believe that I have a duty of care as an Educator to care, guide and help children through their young stages of life as they are the future and are important. I also believe that helping children learn through play is vital in the early years as they develop lifelong skills. My passion is scaffolding learning as children are learning new things each day. I ensure I am creating close bonds with children and parents as I find this important in childcare. I believe that each child is an individual and as an Educator I will value and develop each child’s strengths, interests, skills, abilities and knowledge to extend their learning. I will always try to provide opportunities for children to explore, discover, create and imagine, and help them grow. I believe the environment plays a major role in the success of an early childhood program. It should enhance the children’s interests in all developmental domains. I believe learning in an early childhood environment is done most successfully through stations that can be visited, explored, and revisited again and again. The environment should take into consideration the social skills, communication skills, physical abilities or challenges, and learning styles of the children being served.
I consider families a vital aspect of my program. Parents who can spend time in the classroom occasionally are more aware of the details of their child’s day. Observing what goes on firsthand helps a parent know what to ask the child at the end of the school day. In planning my program, I would strive for a developmentally appropriate, child-centred atmosphere where children can master new challenges through activities and topics that are meaningful to them, thus building their self-esteem as they develop and learn. Children should be given choices, responsibilities, and opportunities to initiate their own learning. I believe observations and assessments are excellent tools to use when planning curriculum. Observations not only aide in creating the curriculum but also give insight into the development, knowledge and skill levels of each individual child.
I’m 22 years old and have been working with children for 16 years old when I first started my Certificate 3 in Children’s services in grade 11 and completed it in grade 12. I’ve recently completed my Diploma in 2019 and have a passion for children and helping them learn. I’ve worked as a Room Leader for the past 4 years, working with children 2-3 years old and the babies. I have three younger sisters and a great partner who has many small children on his side, which I always love to see. I also have a god son I adore very much.
Thankyou for your time.
My name is Heather, I have recently joined the team here at My School - Mount Cotton and am excited to take on this role. I am currently working towards my Diploma and have over 3 years of experience as an educator and 2 years working with the 2-3 years age group. On completion of my Diploma, I will be continuing to study in the area of Paediatric Occupational Therapy.
I am a mum of 2 boys 12 and 4 (4-year-old also attends the centre), I understand how challenging, exhausting, and rewarding it can be as a parent.
As an educator, I enjoy spending time with young children and helping them grow physically, cognitively, emotionally and most of all working with them to ensure that they enjoy themselves while away from their loved ones. Building nurturing and understanding relationships and a supportive environment are at the top of my personal beliefs.
I thrive on providing children with meaningful learning opportunities and welcome input from parents and families. (What activities would you like to see? What are your child’s interests at home? What are your goals? What area/theme or subject would you like your child to explore?) Working together we can provide the best outcomes and experiences for your child.
My name is Kelly Orbell, Lead Educator in the Pre Kindy 1 room. I have recently started my journey here at My School Kindergarten and Childcare. I’m particularly excited to join the team here at My School due to the high-quality learning program offered and professional organization supporting the development of young minds.

At my last place of employment, I was a Lead Educator for nearly 15 years, with experience working in all age groups, developing exciting and challenging programs. I have a personal interest in the aspect of sustainability and environmental concepts for the children of today.
I look forward to getting to know you and your child.
My name is Rachel and I look forward to joining the team at My School Mount Cotton.
Before I meet you all I thought I’d share a little about myself. I am a wife to a local police officer and mum to 2 beautiful children aged 5 and 2.
I have worked in the early childhood industry for 12 years and have most recently performed the roles of Educational Leader and 2IC at a previous workplace.
I am currently a student in my 3rd year studying a Bachelor of Education - Early Childhood but have completed an Advanced Diploma in Children’s Services.
I like to provide an environment where children are exposed to learning in a fun and engaging way and where creativity, imagination and curiosity are enhanced through play.
I look forward to meeting you and your children next week for the start of what I am sure will be a wonderful year of fun and learning together.
I started my career focusing in Physical Education (Bachelor in Physical Education and Sports Science), enjoying the joy that play and physical activity brings to children. As the years passed, I realized that I just loved teaching and working with young children. Therefore, I decided to study a Masters in Teaching, which focuses in the early years and primary school.
I believe that children not only learn as they play, but also in play they learn to learn. As an educator, I observe the children carefully to understand their interests and the way that each one learns best and then I plan activities that would help them extend their understanding of the world around them, become active, confident and involved learners. The early years of a child are so busy, creative and exciting. Learning is happening all the time and the environment (both physical and human) plays a major role in stimulating and enhancing the children’s natural desire to learn.
I support the Montessori method, where children direct their own learning through meaningful experiences and collaboration. By providing them options and a variety of resources they can learn to make independent choices and grow into confident learners. Age appropriate independence is encouraged and respect is the foundation of the relationships in each classroom. I like to engage with the children as they play and explore and I make sure I spend some individual time with each child to better understand it as an individual and help it learn at its own pace.
I consider families a vital part of the Kindergarten program at My School. Family input, collaboration and open communication can help us give each child what it needs to feel safe, nurtured and happy to learn and explore.
Looking forward to a great year!

Hola! I am Wendy and I am originally from South America!

I also hold a Bachelor degree in social communication, completed a course in children’s literature, and authored my first illustrated children’s book.
I have experience in multicultural education settings, including in countries around the world (e.g., China, Cambodia, Germany, Mexico, Bolivia, USA). This enables me to adapt flexibly to children from diverse ethnic backgrounds, who have diverse needs and interests.
I am currently enrolled in a sustainable education course (in progress), and I have authored a Spanish education guide for children on this topic. This reflects my commitment to instill in children a sense of environmental awareness and care.
Finally, I am an accredited language teacher for “little ones”, having taught Spanish and Italian in child care centres across Sydney for several years.
Feeling a strong sense of vocational calling to educate children, and knowing that I am taking care of the most vulnerable people among us, helping them to learn and grow into responsible people, and keeping them safe, is a big responsibility, and one that I definitely feel good about.
