My School Child Care & Kindergarten – Director
I have been involved in the early childhood industry for over 18 years and hold a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood). I have been lucky over my career to work in a range of diverse centres both in New Zealand and Australia. I have been working within a Director role for the past 6 years and am loving the opportunities this position presents to me.
Throughout my teaching career I have developed my own personal teaching philosophy which is ever evolving and as I continue on my journey I know that it will continue to be impacted by the learning that I do, the settings I work within and the teachers I work alongside.
I believe that each and every child is unique and should be treated as an individual learner and each child brings their own special and unique characteristics, culture, values and beliefs to the learning environment. I believe that all children have the right to participate in all activities provided within the setting regardless of age, gender, ability or background.
I believe that children learn through play and hands on explorations.
I work in partnership with all families at My School and believe that the family is the first teachers of their children. Our families bring to the setting their own unique and special knowledge of each individual child. Within my practice on a daily basis I ensure that I honour the beliefs, values and culture of each child’s family.
My School Child Care & Kindergarten – Lead Educators
I have been working with children of all ages since 2006 and hold a Bachelor of Learning Management and Diploma of Children’s Services.
I started my career as a Primary School teacher and OSCH Coordinator but discovered my passion for Early Childhood after having children of my own and have been in the industry ever since.
I am a strong advocate for inclusive practices and promote building resilience from a place of understanding. I also believe that children learn best through play and that families should be involved as much as possible in their child’s time with us.
I have extensive training in implementing the Reggio Emilia Approach, working with natural resources guiding open ended learning experiences and providing enriched care giving as well as implementing the Abecedarian method for improved language and communication abilities.
I look forward to working with my fellow educators and the families at My School Childcare and Kindergarten and being part of the village that helps raise your child.
Hi, my name is Tanya Hielscher and I am the Teacher in the Kindergarten Room at My School. I worked in Childcare for many years before completing my Bachelor of Learning Management (Early Childhood) in 2012. For the past eight years I have been preparing and supporting children as they get ready for their transition to school. I have a real passion for Early Childhood Education and Care.

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jodi Morris and I’m currently a Lead Educator here at My School. I’m originally from South Africa and I’ve been living in Australia for 11 years. I’ve been in the Early Childhood industry for five years and hold my Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care.
I’m passionate about the Early Years. I believe that all children are strong, capable, competent and curious learners. It is important to me that your child feels safe and secure in my care at My School. I take pride in providing your family and child with the highest quality of care and have a home away from home environment.
My name is Siobahn, although most of the children call me Barney. I finished my Diploma of Early Education and Care in 2016 and have been here at My School for the past two years. I have three daughters of my own and I was born and raised in Mackay.
I believe in supporting children to become independent by working to develop physical and cognitive skills and support their emotional development and build self-confidence. I believe in forming strong bonds with the children, so they feel secure and supported enough in their environment to branch out and try new things. I like to join in with play and work with children at their level to problem-solve and work out solutions for themselves, so they develop persistence and feel pride in their achievements.
I have taught at TAFE for eleven years and then in the High School system for three years. Then, I was drawn to Early Childhood Education, largely due to the arrival of my first grandchild. I have been in an Educators role for four and a half years and more recently have moved into a Lead Educator role. I really enjoy working with small children, in their formative years as we set up the foundation for lifelong learning. I also appreciate that we must make connections with children in a nurturing and familial environment that fosters the child’s development across all developmental domains and I often use spontaneous experiences as part of play-based learning at My School. I finished my Diploma of Early Childhood Education in August 2019.

I’ve been working with children now for 5 years and I love every minute of it.
My role as an educator at My School has shown me the importance that an educator should have a strong understanding of the stages of child development, so as to help parents know what to expect and how to best support their child as he or she grows and develops. In observing how children learn and grow, I am actively moulding myself as an educator to reflect the needs of the children in my classroom. Getting to play with and nurture young children as they reach new milestones and abilities is the most rewarding accomplishment I have ever achieved.
I have strong beliefs that the first 5 years of a child’s life is the foundation that shapes their future health, happiness, growth, development and learning achievements at school, in their family, community, and life in general. I also believe children all learn at their own pace and learn from experience of hands on activities.
I am looking forward to working with you at My School and getting to know your child and helping them succeed in their learning and participation.
