The Early Years Count (Updated for 2024)

At My School Child Care & Kindergarten, we are passionate about delivering high-quality early childhood education, knowing that the early years are a critical period in your child’s development. Research shows that 90% of a child’s brain development occurs in the first five years, making this a crucial time for learning. Our programs are designed to harness this vital phase, giving your child the best start in life through nurturing, enriching, and carefully planned experiences.

The Early Years Count

We are proud to align our philosophy with The Early Years Count initiative, a Queensland Government program designed to support parents, educators, and communities in recognising the importance of early childhood development. This initiative provides essential resources for families, offering insights and practical advice on supporting children’s learning, language, and physical development.

At My School Child Care & Kindergarten, we know that every child is unique and capable of reaching their full potential with the right support. Our expert team of passionate educators is dedicated to creating an environment that stimulates curiosity, imagination, and the joy of learning through play. By providing engaging activities, hands-on experiences, and collaborative learning, we ensure that every child at My School develops critical cognitive, social, physical, and emotional skills.

Play-Based Learning and Individualised Care

Play is central to our approach at My School Child Care & Kindergarten. We believe that children learn best when they are active participants in their learning. Our play-based curriculum is designed to encourage exploration and creativity, allowing children to follow their natural curiosity while developing essential skills like problem-solving, social interaction, and independence.

Each child is an individual, and we tailor our programs to meet their unique needs, interests, and abilities. Our educators are experts in early childhood education, using the latest research and best practices to guide each child’s development, ensuring they feel supported and encouraged throughout their learning journey.

Supporting Families: The Early Years Count Resources

We understand that parents are their child’s first teachers, and we value the importance of strong collaboration between families and educators. The Early Years Count website provides a wealth of resources for parents, including tips and activities that support your child’s learning and development at home. These resources empower families to be actively involved in their child’s education, reinforcing the learning that takes place at our centre.

2024 Updates to the Child Care Subsidy: Maximising Support for Families

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to share the latest updates for 2024 regarding the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) program, which continues to benefit families using child care services across Australia. At My School Child Care & Kindergarten, we remain committed to providing high-quality education and care for your children, while ensuring that child care remains affordable and accessible for all families.

Key Changes to the Child Care Subsidy in 2024

From 10 July 2023, significant changes to the CCS were introduced, and they will continue to support families throughout 2024. These updates are designed to provide more financial relief to families, helping to make child care more affordable and ensuring that all children have access to high-quality early education.

Here are the key changes to the CCS for 2024:

  • Higher Maximum Subsidy Amount: The maximum CCS rate has increased from 85% to 90%, enabling families to receive even more financial support for their child care expenses. This means families will now have more access to affordable child care options.
  • Updated Income Thresholds: Families earning $80,000 or less are now eligible for a 90% CCS rate. For those earning above $80,000, the subsidy rate gradually reduces by 1% for every $5,000 of income, until it phases out at $530,000 or more. These updated thresholds ensure that more families receive greater financial assistance.
  • Multiple Children Subsidy Boost: Families earning under $362,408 with more than one child aged 5 or under in care will continue to benefit from a higher CCS rate for their second and younger children, making it easier for families with multiple children to afford care.
  • Increased Support for Indigenous Families: Families with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children now have access to at least 36 hours of subsidised care per fortnight, promoting equitable opportunities for all children to access early education.

These enhancements ensure that families across Australia, especially those in communities like Slade Point, Park Avenue, and Mt Cotton, can access affordable, high-quality early childhood education at My School Child Care & Kindergarten.

Navigating the Changes with Confidence

The Australian Government’s Department of Education has created a range of resources to help families and providers understand these changes. To learn more about how the updated CCS works and how it may affect your family, visit the official government website at:

Here, you’ll find factsheets, videos, and translated materials that explain the revised CCS program in detail. You can also use the CCS Calculator on the Starting Blocks website to estimate your new subsidy rates for 2024. We encourage all families to stay informed and take full advantage of these resources.

At My School Child Care & Kindergarten, we recognise that starting kindergarten is an important milestone in your child’s early education. Our focus is to ensure that both you and your child feel confident, informed, and prepared for this exciting journey. We are proud to offer top-notch kindergarten programs in line with the latest initiatives by the Queensland government, including the Free Kindy program, which helps make high-quality early education more accessible for families.

My School Kindy Age Requirements

Your child is eligible to attend My School Kindy in the year they turn 4 years old by June 30. To help you plan, the My School Kindy Calculator, provided by the Queensland Government, helps determine when your child can begin kindy based on their birthdate. This tool is essential for parents to ensure their child is ready at the right time. Visit the Queensland Government’s Early Childhood website to access this handy calculator.

Free Kindy Program (2024)

As part of the Queensland government’s Free Kindy initiative, more families than ever before will have access to free or low-cost kindergarten programs. This new program enables eligible children to receive 15 hours of kindergarten education per week for free. The initiative helps reduce financial barriers for families and ensures that all children have access to a quality kindergarten education.

At My School Child Care & Kindergarten, we are proud to be part of this initiative, ensuring that your child receives the highest standard of care and education at no additional cost to you. We encourage families to explore their eligibility for Free Kindy and secure a spot for their child at one of our centres. (Click Here for more information)

Enrolment Process

At My School Child Care & Kindergarten, we offer flexible enrolment options to accommodate the diverse needs of families. Many of our services accept enrolments year-round, but spots can fill up quickly due to high demand. We recommend registering your interest early, even before your child reaches the eligible age, to secure their place.

For children eligible for Free Kindy, it’s particularly important to confirm your enrolment well in advance to take full advantage of this benefit. Contact your nearest My School Child Care & Kindergarten centre for specific details on enrolment timelines.

Preparing for the First Day of Kindy

We know that preparing your child for their first day of kindy can feel overwhelming. At My School Child Care & Kindergarten, we support you through this process by helping your child feel familiar and comfortable with their new environment. Driving or walking past the centre, talking about what they will experience, and discussing the fun activities they will enjoy can help ease any first-day jitters.

You can also prepare your child by encouraging them to practice daily tasks such as dressing themselves, using their lunchbox and drink bottle, and developing social skills like sharing and taking turns. This helps foster independence and confidence, ensuring your child is ready for their exciting new journey.

What to Bring

At My School Child Care & Kindergarten, we aim to make your day easier by providing nutritious meals for your child, so you don’t have to worry about packing food. However, children typically need to bring:

  • A drink bottle
  • Spare clothes
  • A broad-brimmed hat
  • Shoes

Our educators will provide a full list of any additional items needed for a smooth, comfortable day at kindy.
