Educational Leaders
Clare Cartaar
Hello My School Families,
I am Clare, one of the Educational Leaders for My School Child Care & Kindergarten - Mt Cotton. With over 7 years of experience in the Early Years/School Age sector, I have held various roles, including Co-Educator, Lead Educator, Assistant Director, and Centre Director.
Having witnessed the fantastic work at My School Mount Cotton as a parent—my son has been attending since he was 12 months old—I was genuinely impressed. When the opportunity arose for me to join this exceptional team, I couldn’t have been more excited. I am thrilled to contribute to the ongoing amazing work in our Centre.
My educational philosophy revolves around the belief that every child is unique, holding the right to their individual identity. Childcare services, in my view, should strive to be a home away from home. By nurturing children’s sense of being and belonging, we pave the way for their smooth transition into becoming active members of society.
I am eager to meet each of you, getting to know your children and families on a deeper level.
Kelly Newton
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and express my excitement at becoming a part of the My School Child Care and Kindergarten Mt Cotton team.
My name is Kelly, and I’ve recently joined as an educator in the Toddlers 2 room. I come to you with 12 years of experience working with children of all ages and hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care.
I firmly believe that children learn best through play, at their own pace and in their own unique way. It‘s this belief that guides my approach to education, and I’m thrilled to be able to share it with your children.
On a personal note, I‘ve been married for nearly 20 years, and my husband and I have two children of our own: a 13-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. We cherish family time and often find ourselves having "BCFing" fun together. And when I have a moment to myself, you’ll likely find me with a good book in my hands.
I am genuinely looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you and your families. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or thoughts you might have. I am here to support you and your children as they embark on their journey of growth and discovery.
Thank you for entrusting us with the care and education of your precious little ones. I am honored to be a part of your child’s learning and development experience.

Melissa Laws
Hello, I’m Mel, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to My School Child Care & Kindergarten - Mt Cotton. With 19 years of experience in the child care industry, I have dedicated nearly two decades to nurturing young minds and supporting their growth and development. Every moment spent working with children has been a rewarding experience, and I am passionate about continuing this journey.
I hold a Certificate in Childcare and Education, and I am currently advancing my qualifications by studying for a Diploma in Child Care. My extensive experience and ongoing education have equipped me with a deep understanding of early childhood development, allowing me to create enriching and supportive environments for the children in our care.
When it comes to fostering development, I believe in recognising each child’s unique capabilities and potential. While understanding what a child can typically achieve at a certain age is important, I don’t see these milestones as limitations. Instead, I view them as opportunities to encourage children to challenge themselves and explore their abilities, all while feeling supported by the caring adults around them.
To me, a child’s mind is ever-evolving, and it’s crucial to provide them with an open and flexible environment that encourages creativity and independent thinking. By offering children a “canvas” to explore, rather than telling them exactly how and what to do, we empower them to think outside the box and develop problem-solving skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
At My School Child Care & Kindergarten - Mt Cotton, I am committed to creating a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. I look forward to building strong, positive relationships with the children and families in our community, and I am excited to continue contributing to the growth and development of each child in our care.
Thank you for trusting us with your child’s early education journey. I am excited to be a part of this wonderful community and to support your child as they learn, grow, and thrive.

Fiona Gorman
I am delighted to introduce myself. My name is Fiona Smith, and I have been fortunate enough to embark on a fulfilling journey in the field of child care. My passion for teaching and guiding children started when I left school and began working as a Kindergarten Assistant. It was during this time that I discovered my love for supporting young minds and nurturing their curiosity to learn and grow.
After gaining invaluable experience in the kindergarten setting, I transitioned to a long daycare service, where I had the opportunity to work with children of various age groups. It was a fulfilling experience to witness the unique development and learning journeys of each child. However, life took an unexpected turn when I became a mother to three beautiful children of my own.
Embracing the joys of motherhood, I took the opportunity to stay home and focus on my family. During this time, I discovered a newfound passion for creating hair accessories and jewelry for my daughters. With the support and encouragement of my loved ones, I was able to turn this passion into a small business, opening a shop in a rural town. It was an enriching experience that allowed me to channel my creativity and entrepreneurship.
A few years ago, my husband and I made the decision to relocate to the Redlands, a place we instantly fell in love with. The proximity to the water and the natural beauty of the area have brought us much joy. In our spare time, we enjoy fishing and camping, immersing ourselves in nature’s wonders and creating lasting memories as a family.
In terms of my qualifications, I hold a Diploma in Child Care, which has equipped me with a strong foundation in understanding child development and best practices in early childhood education. However, my thirst for knowledge and desire to make a difference in the lives of children led me to pursue further studies. Currently, I am eagerly preparing to embark on my Bachelor’s in Education - Kindergarten Teacher, which will further enhance my skills and expertise in providing quality education and care.
This year, I have the privilege of serving as a Lead Educator in the Kindergarten room at My School Child Care & Kindergarten - Mt Cotton. It is a role that fills me with passion and dedication. There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing the "twinkle" in a child’s eyes when they grasp a new concept or achieve a milestone. It is in those moments that I am reminded of the immense joy and privilege of being an educator.
As an educator, I believe in fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can freely explore, imagine, and create. I take great delight in observing children at play, listening to their imaginative stories, and witnessing the sparks of curiosity and wonder that ignite their learning journey.
Every child is unique, and I am committed to tailoring my approach to meet their individual needs, interests, and learning styles. I strive to create a warm and inclusive classroom atmosphere where children feel safe, valued, and empowered to express themselves.
I firmly believe that education is a collaborative effort between educators, families, and the wider community. I value open and honest communication with families, as their insights and involvement are crucial in supporting each child’s growth and development. Together, we can create a strong foundation for their future success.
I am thrilled to be a part of the vibrant community at My School Child Care & Kindergarten - Mt Cotton. It is a place where children’s potential is nurtured, and their love for learning is ignited. I am eager to collaborate with my fellow educators, families, and the wider community to create a positive and inspiring educational journey for all children under our care.
In conclusion, I am genuinely passionate about teaching and dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of children of all ages. Witnessing their growth, development, and achievements brings me immeasurable joy and fulfillment.

Recognising each child’s distinct personality, strengths, and needs is crucial to supporting their development and helping them reach their full potential.
I am a strong advocate for hands-on learning in early childhood. I believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged in exploring the world around them through play. Play is not just a way for children to have fun; it is an essential part of their development. Through play, children develop critical thinking skills, social skills, and creativity, all of which are foundational for their future learning and growth.
At My School Child Care & Kindergarten - Mt Cotton, I strive to create an environment where children feel safe, supported, and free to explore their interests. My goal is to provide each child with the tools and opportunities they need to grow into confident, curious, and capable learners.
I am proud to be part of the dedicated team at My School Child Care & Kindergarten - Mt Cotton, and I look forward to building strong, positive relationships with the children and families in our community.
